Workshop on Non-Intrusive Inspection Technologies for South Asia Customs Officials
A capacity-building workshop on Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) Technologies was held on 2-4 December 2024 at the NACIN Palasamudram Campus, Andhra Pradesh, India, attended by 20 Customs Officials from SASEC countries. The program discussed existing and emerging challenges related to trade and border security, and shared best practices on the use of NII for customs risk management.
12th Meeting of the SASEC Customs Subgroup
On 24-25 September, Bhutan's Department of Revenue and Customs, in collaboration with The Asian Development Bank’s South Asia Department, convened the 12th Meeting of the SASEC Subgroup on Customs in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Powering Nepal: 5 Decades of ADB–Nepal Partnership in the Energy Sector
SASEC Power System Expansion Project, the largest energy project implemented by ADB in Nepal, is transforming the energy sector by constructing transmission lines that could evacuate up to 2 GW of electricity from the Kali Gandaki and Marsyangdi river basins. Another project, the SASEC Power Transmission and Distribution System Strengthening Project, will strengthen transmission substations to support electricity exports to 850,000 new and existing customers in Madhesh Province.
Millennium Challenge Corporation-Nepal Inks $12 Million Contract for 18 km Cross-border Electricity Transmission Line
Nepal has taken a significant step in enhancing its energy cooperation with India by signing a $12.36 million contract for an 18 km cross-border electricity transmission line under the broader Electricity Transmission Project of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact. The transmission line will connect the 400 kV New Butwal Substation in Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta West to the Nepal-India border and includes the construction of three substations.
Bhutan’s Druk Green Power and India's Adani Group Sign Wangchhu Hydropower Project MoU
The Druk Green Power Corporation of Bhutan and the Adani Group of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of the Wangchhu Hydropower Project. This agreement marks a significant step in the ongoing cooperation between Bhutan and India in the energy sector.
